The Basics: Capturing potential leads (your customers)
The Really Simple Way to Get Your Subscriber Base.
The potential customer process: A person fills out the form by typing in their email address and pressing a submit button, sign-up, or with any action words you choose.
Then the magic happens.
That email address is automatically added to your autoresponder list. The autoresponder automatically starts sending emails you wrote and the time & date to send to the newly added email address. Immediately your ‘Thank You’ landing page with your offer automatically displays once the form is submitted.
How to
How does one build a list of permission-based subscribers to use in your email marketing? Opt-in funnel, a mini-website containing a couple of landing pages. A place to host pages, a way to build pages that integrate with your autoresponder, (AWeber, GetResponse, ActiveChampaign Mailchimp, etc). There are a few easy ways to handle these needs. LeadPages, Hostinger, Grovefunnels, or any web hosting service with a web page builder. Hostinger is one of the least expensive for those on a budget.
The mini-website starts with Page one. It contains a free gift given away in exchange for an email address.
Page two is a form containing fill-in boxes asking for a name and email address that integrates with your autoresponder.
Page three, the ‘Thank You’ page with an additional offer, an upsell. Page one could have a pop-up window with a capture form bringing down the mini funnel to two landing pages.
This is one simple way to collect permission based email subscribers, (your potential customers).
Your job is to get your opt-in landing page link in front of your audience and start building your list. Either by Joint ventures emailing, advertising, email buys (solo ads), social media platforms, retargeting previous website visitors, write articles or blogging. There are more, but the ones listed above are popular.
Building your list too quickly
Did you know if you or someone else builds your email list too quickly it can cause problems with ISPs delivering your emails?
The issue is your sender’s domain (URL) reputation. Three things have to be considered when building your list. Your sending domain, server IP that’s sending emails, and the size of your list. In the eyes of ISPs, a new domain needs to show age or history. They know that spammers are buying new domains trying to trick ISP filtering, so the older the domain the better. The second thing to keep in mind is how fast a list is built. Sending an email with a domain with no history and a new list larger than, let’s say 200 subscribers or more will trigger spam filters. Or it won’t be delivered at all. It’s a good idea to warm up a new list and domain first by sending emails in small segments in the beginning. This helps build your sender’s reputation and domain history. Then after a few weeks start adding subscribers to the segment, sending emails to more and more people. After a few weeks or months, you can send to the full list.
For email deliverability, you need at least 6 things:
- Well formatted email
- Good non-misleading subject line
- Domain history, aged and not blacklisted
- The permission-based list you build slowly
- Stay away from using spammy words
- Subscribers engaging with your email, (opening emails, clicking links, replying
Conclusion: Your List is Traffic and More Traffic = MORE MONEY
To build your opt-in sign-up funnel, 5 things are required:
- Autoresponder – (mailing service ESP – AWeber, Getresponse, ActiveCampaign, MailingBoss, MailChimp, etc
- Landing web pages builder and hosting for the pages – LeadPages, Hostinger, Grovefunnels, WIX, or any web hosting service with a web page builder like Interserver, BuilderAll, Bluehost, or GoDaddy.
- A Lead Magnet – Digital products work best because it’s an instant download. A pdf, report, guide, ebook, or checklist, can be a Private Label rights (PLR) product, video, newsletter, etc. Anything your audience would find useful in exchange for their email.
- Imaging for landing pages – Unsplash, Pixabay, Canva, Photoshop, PaintShop Pro, etc
- Integration between Landing page sign up form and Autoresponder (AWeber has landing page templates and sign-up Form templates you can use to replace 3rd party landing page builders. AWeber can get you started).
If you’re overwhelmed with the idea of funnel construction, hire someone to do it for you. Look into Fiverr or Upwork for freelance designers for hire.
