Impossible Feats By Tricks and Illusions, Saying Abracadabra
Prestidigitation, conjuring, sleight of hand or just plain old magic. You know, the impossible feats by tricks saying abracadabra.
I’m not talking about any kind of black magic here. I’m talking about what Simon Helberg as Howard Walowitz of the Big Bang Theory performed on the show. Think of the disappearing cane, the milk from pitcher disappears into a cone made from newspaper, picking a card and pulling a rabbit out of a hat kind of magic.
When I was 18, I was really into magic and used to wear a sports jacket loaded with all kinds of magic apparatus. Fekes, fakes, (see meaning below) deck of cards, coins and a collapsible magic wand. All the things I bought at the local magic shop and learned from books. Of course the shop owner would also help me out with tips.
Actually thinking back, the local community college once had a one night course on performing magic that I attended.
Hey Magic Man, show me a trick
I would go bar hopping, performing close-up magic for anyone who asked. (18 was the legal drinking age back in the day). There came a point where I was approached by people as soon as I walked into the bar to do a trick, before I had a chance to belly up to the bar for a drink. I hear, ‘Hey Magic Man show me a trick’. Soon after would ask, “how did you do that?”
That’s when I stopped wearing my sports coat and realized this wasn’t for me. Apparently I had to be mentally prepared and ready to perform. Catching me off guard freaked me out.
During this era a friend was performing a small free magic show for some kids and asked if I would like to do a trick or two. I said yes, but when the time came my nerves got the better of me and couldn’t talk or what in magic terms, patter. So I haphazardly did two rope tricks in total silence. I guess things went okay because one of the kids father approached and asked if I would be willing to do an act for his son’s birthday party in one year.
I said yes but it was the worst decision I ever made. There was a full year to prepare, but I didn’t and when the time came, I started and everything that could go wrong did go wrong. The balloon popped, but the dove never appeared. The cane appeared but I dropped it on the floor. The linking rings got stuck.
Most embarrassing and I learned that performing one on one is much easier than in front of a full house of kids. The point of this story is ever since I could remember I wanted to work for myself. Have my own business. It took a lot of failures, but I just kept trying things. And finally I discovered that it is possible to make a living online. Seems so fitting to know that there is a way to have a one person work from anywhere and anytime business.

What are fekes and fakes?
A feke is a small apparatus you see, but don’t realize it’s there and not real. Your brain doesn’t put it together even though it’s right in plain sight. A fake is a piece of apparatus you never see, it’s hidden from your onlookers.
